INTENT OF RULES

The idea is

1) Avoid the need for eagle vision by

  • limiting the height of powered climb

  • shorter flights to reduce need for high thermal climbs

2) Wider range of skills -- points for

a) takeoff

b) landing

c) precision time

3) More spectator appeal.

AIRPLANE  RULES

Any Pre 1943 Old Timers, and pre 1950 European Old Timers. Scaling is allowed.

Each plane has an altitude switch which shuts off the motor above 654 feet (200 meters)

Electric Power -- with no battery rules, no motor rules, and no wing loading rules.

Rudder, elevator and motor controls only -- no folding props, flaps, spoilers or ailerons.

 

FLIGHT RULES -- 4 Rounds

CAM and Sky Limit switches legal

CD required to verify Sky Limit display

Climb limited to 200 meters (650 ft) and 30 seconds

Contest score is best 3 rounds of 4

CD may increase to best 4 of 5 if pilots and weather agree

Four Sequential Mass Launches

Target times of  3, 4, 5, and 6  minutes.

All planes takeoff in sequence, controlled by the launch master.

Timers start their watches at takeoff.

Timing stops when the wheels touch ground.

Scoring

Takeoff  10 points.   (Hand launch 0 points)

Landing on runway 15 points.

Flight

Achieve target time -- score 1 point per second of target time

OR

Miss target time -- score 1 point per second of target time   less    a point per second of amount early or late.

General Rules

Takeoffs will be at roughly 25 ft intervals along the east side of the runway, and (wind permitting) will run diagonally 30 degrees from the runway direction. Pilots will be behind the safety fence.

Hand launches (if required) will be from the field perimeter, upwind side.

After touchdown leave the runway immediately. Either do a "touch and go" or taxi quickly off to the side or end of the runway.
