AIRPLANE RULES Any Pre 1943 Old Timers, and pre 1950 European Old Timers. Scaling is Ok. Each plane has an altitude switch which shuts off the motor above 654 feet (200 meters) Electric Power -- with no battery rules Rudder, elevator and motor controls only -- no folding props, flaps, spoilers or ailerons. |
FLIGHT RULES -- 5 Rounds Contest score is best 4 rounds of 5 Three Mass Launches Target times of 3, 4 and 5 minutes. All planes takeoff together after a ten second count-down. Timers start their watches at the end of the count-down. Timers verify that motors are off 30 seconds after countdown ends. Timing stops when the wheels touch ground. Scoring Takeoff bonus 5 points. Land on runway 15 points. Achieve target time -- score 60 points. Miss target time -- score 60 points less a point per second (up to 60 points) of amount early or late. Two Anytime Launches Target times of 6 and 7 minutes. (This needs thermal assistance) Timing starts 3 minutes after launch, or earlier if pilot calls "START" Motor may be stopped and started at will before timing starts. Timing stops when the wheels touch ground. Scoring Takeoff bonus 15 points. Land on runway 5 points. Achieve target time -- score 60 points. Miss target time -- score 60 points less a point per second (up to 60 points) of amount early or late. |
General Rules Takeoffs will be at 25 ft intervals along the east side of the runway, and will run diagonally 30 degrees from the runway direction. Pilots will be behind the safety fence. Hand launches (if required) will be from the field perimeter, upwind side. After touchdown parking is not allowed on the runway (It's the same at SFO). So if other planes are following close behind you either perform a "touch and go" or taxi quickly to the side or end of the runway. Your timer will advise. |
